Atlantic City Tax Preparer Gets Two Years for Tax Fraud

Atlantic City

An Atlantic County tax preparer was sentenced today to 24 months in prison for including fraudulent credits and deductions on federal tax returns for his clients in an effort to gain repeat business, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.

Tinh Van Vo, 50, of Egg Harbor Township, was previously convicted of 10 counts of aiding and assisting in the preparation of false federal income tax returns following a two-week trial before U.S. District Judge Robert B. Kugler, who imposed the sentence today in Camden federal court.

According to documents filed in this case and the evidence at trial:

Vo prepared and filed fraudulent U.S. Individual Income Tax Returns through his business, TVO Services in Atlantic City. The returns attached schedules for fictitious educational credits, charitable contributions, and job expenses the taxpayers were not entitled to take – all to generate fraudulently inflated refunds.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Kugler sentenced Vo to one year of supervised release.

During that time, Vo is prohibited from employment that allows him to prepare or assist in the preparation of tax returns. Vo must also pay a $15,000 fine.
