Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose cautions those residents who insist on using all terrain vehicles (ATVs) in the city.
ATVs do not belong on city streets and are strictly meant for off road usage.
“We won’t condone or allow the use of all terrain vehicles and dirt bikes on Newark streets, a practice which is illegal. They are unsafe and are being used recklessly, having very little regard for the safety of the public,” said Director Ambrose.
Adding, “Usage of ATVs has become a real concern for residents and motorists who have expressed anxiety over how dirt bikes and ATVs are being driven at high rates of speed and how they dart in and out of traffic seemingly taking over the streets.”
The police department will enforce motor vehicle infractions related to illegal dirt bikes and ATVs being ridden in our city. Riders will be issued summonses and their vehicles will be confiscated and towed. Any parked dirt bikes or ATVs will also be towed.
Fines for violators can range up to $100.
