Armed Linden Man Strikes County Officer with Vehicle in Elizabeth

A police officer struck by a vehicle in Elizabeth yesterday is expected to be ok authorities said.

According to police a 21-year-old Linden man accused of striking the officer Wednesday afternoon had a suspended license and was found in possession of a handgun.

Police were called to Rahway Avenue at Elizabethtown Plaza at approximately 4:45 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck by vehicle.

Arriving officers, found the Union County officer, who was at his routine traffic post, had been struck by the driver - later identified as Aberto Rosario, 21, of Linden, who was driving west on Rahway Avenue during the time of the incident.

The officer was transported to an unidentified health care facility with minor injuries, officials said.

Rosario received several motor vehicle summons and was charged with illegal possession of a weapon.

He was being held last night at the Union County jail on $100,000 bail.
