The Linden Fire Department rescued one occupant from a structure fire in the early morning hours on Sunday, officials announced this afternoon.
Firefighters were called to 344 South Wood Avenue Sunday at approximately 3:01 a.m. for a report of a structure fire.
Upon arrival, units found the mix dwelling's entire right side exterior engulfed in flames, with reports of someone occupying the second floor apartment.
The fire quickly spread to the second floor apartment as crews forced their way into the second floor apartment where they alerted the sleeping tenant that the building was on fire.
The tenant was safely escorted, rescued, and subsequently treated at the scene.
Firefighters worked to quickly extinguish the blaze preventing it from spreading to the apartment above and the exposure building located 5 feet away.
Due to the extent of the fire, the Driftwood Inn - located on the first floor of the building - is currently closed.
There were no report of injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
