Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Director Anthony A. Caputo of the New Brunswick Police Department announced that a city resident was charged today with fatally shooting one man, wounding another individual and plotting to kill a third man.
Raymundo Jael Perez-Garcia, 23, of New Brunswick was charged with the murder of Marcos Hernandez, a 33-year-old Passaic resident who died after being shot in New Brunswick.
Perez-Garcia also was charged with conspiracy to commit the murder of a 19-year-old man who was not injured, and was charged with the attempted murder of a 27-year-old man, who was hospitalized with a gunshot wound.
Perez-Garcia was arrested by police on unrelated charges on March 8, 2016. He was served today with the additional charges related to the shooting, which occurred on Drift Street in New Brunswick on March 7, 2016.
Bail was set at $500,000 for Perez-Garcia.
During the investigation, it was determined that Perez-Garcia opened fire and struck Hernandez and the 27-year-old man, whose identity is being withheld.
Both men were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where Hernandez died on March 9, 2016.
The investigation is active and is continuing.
