A high speed pursuit of a vehicle occupied by a suspect wated for an armed carjacking placed police in the city's South Ward overnight.
The incident happened at around 2 a.m. in the city's South Ward when the carjacking suspect approached the victim armed with a gun and demanded the vehicle.
After handing over the vehicle, the victim immediately called police and reported the carjacking.
A radio broadcast of the vehicle's description had officers in the area on high alert for a 2014 Nissan Sentra that was occupied by at least one black male suspect.
Units arriving to the scene spotted the vehicle and began to follow in the area of Seymour Avenue and Nye Avenue.
With the suspect refusing to stop and the vehicle reaching high rates of speed, officers continued to track the vehicle at a safe distance when they noticed the suspect bail from the vehicle in the 800 block of South 10th Street.
Officers chased the suspect for a short time through the yards but it was not immediately clear if he was ever apprehended.
A police cruiser was damaged during the pursuit after the suspect crashed into it in while fleeing but there were no reports of injured officers.
