Toms River Crash Kills Mother, Infant Survives

Authorities are investigating a crash that killed a 28-year-old woman after the vehicle left the road and ultimately overturned.

Police and medical units responded to a motor vehicle crash on New Hampshire Avenue and North Maple Avenue at approximately 11:15 a.m.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a 28-year-old Toms River woman driving a 2015 Honda was on the southbound side of New Hampshire Avenue, when for unknown reason she crossed over the center yellow line and left the roadway.

The vehicle went over the curb and into several trees. It finally came to rest on its side in a water retention basin, police added.

Crews from Pleasant Plains and Silverton Fire Companies as well as Silverton First Aid Squad responded to assist in the rescue.

The unidentified woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crew workers also rescued an infant passenger who was secured in a car seat after rescuers crawled inside the overturned vehicle.

The child was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.

The crash remains under investigation.
