Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announced the arrest of a Paterson officer in connection with last week’s shooting outside 7-Eleven.
Following an investigation into the Feb. 25 shooting outside the 7-Eleven – located at the corner of Main and Market streets - shortly before 1:30 a.m., Dante L. Gordon, 25, was arrested in Princeton at approximately 10 this morning.
According to reports, for undisclosed reasons Gordon allegedly pointed and ultimately fired his gun at Travis Mann 34, of Wanaque. Fragment or debris from the discharge allegedly caused injury to Travis Mann and John Smith, 36, who was in the area when the gun was fired.
It was not until later that morning that the Paterson Police Department claims was informed of the incident. At that point, the department notified the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Gordon was suspended without pay effective Feb. 26. and charged with one count of second degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose for the handgun and one count of fourth degree aggravated assault by pointing a handgun at or in the direction of another person and two counts of fourth degree aggravated assault by “recklessly causing bodily injury to another with a deadly weapon.”
The incident remains under investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Shooting Response Team.
