Police in Newark took a burglary suspect in custody in the city's North Ward overnight.
The incident happened in the 50's block of 9th Ave. at around 12:40 a.m. when the homeowners surprised the male suspect who was reportedly attempting to gain access into the living space of the home.
Awakened residents (who heard suspicious noises in the house) confronted the suspect who reportedly began to flee from the scene then struggle with the homeowner according to reports.
The homeowner gain control of the physical struggle, restraining the suspect while authorities were called.
Fast moving Newark Police officers (who were on routine patrol in the area) arrived and placed the suspect in custody.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
