Two-Time Convicted Rapist Gets Life in Prison

Jersey City

Authorities today announced that a two-time convicted rapist, Shawn Barrett, was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole today.

On August 20, 2013, 45-year-old Barrett pretended to be a supervisor for a county department to manipulate the victim to his home. Once there, Barrett forced the victim into his home at knife-point and repeatedly raped her while she was blindfolded with a belt, a tie.

The victim grabbed the knife, stabbed him and fled.

He was taken into custody after the incident.

During today's sentencing, the victim requested that Barrett be sentenced to life in prison, saying that she was afraid Barrett would continue his life of crime if released.
