Elderly Woman Carjacked, Pistol Whipped in Newark; Suspect Fired Shot at Victim

Police in Newark are investigating a carjacking that had the suspects violently assault and fire a shot in the direction of an elderly woman overnight in Newark.

The incident happened shortly after 11 p.m. in the 100 block of South 13th Street when police were called to that location on reports of shots fired.

Units arriving to the scene located a woman suffering non-life threatening injuries after being assaulted with a gun by two male suspects.

According to the victim, two "young" male suspects approached and ordered keys to the vehicle. When the victim attempted to hand over the keys, the suspects reportedly went on a violent attack, striking the woman multiple times with the handgun which possibly caused the weapon to fire off at least one round in the direction of the woman.

One of the suspects have been described as a tall brown complexion male who was last seen wearing dark clothing while the other suspect has a dark complexion and was last seen wearing a dark jacket and was said to have been in possession of the weapon. Both suspects are believed to be juveniles.

The carjacked vehicle is reported as a 2012 silver colored Jaguar with NJ license plates.

The victim is reported to be in her 70's and was transported to the hospital where she is expected to be ok.

UPDATE 9:57 a.m. Police recovered that vehicle at an unknown location in the city.
