Authorities identify Newark couple arrested in connection to the yesterday's fatal hit-and-run.
Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari revealed the vehicle involved in the fatal hit-and-run was recovered in Newark around midnight last night.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Johanna Rojas Alvarez, 26 (the owner of the vehicle) and her boyfriend Fabian Rodriguez Calles, 33 (driver in fatal hit-and-run).
According to officials, Rodriguez was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injury, leaving the scene of a fatal accident and endangering and hindering a victim.
Rojas Alvarez - who was not in the vehicle at the time of the incident - was charged with hindering apprehension and obstruction of justice.
Yesterday, 7-year-old Sheyla Pichardo and her mother were on their way to School No. 1, near the intersection of 61st Street and Van Buren Place in West New York, when they were struck by a black Chevy Tahoe.
The girl died from her injuries. Her mother was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Investigations also revealed that sometime around 9 a.m. Monday, Rojas Alvarez reported the car stolen to the Hillside Police Department.
