Woodbridge Officers Charged in Motor Vehicle Crash Cover-Up

Woodbridge Township

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Director Robert Hubner of the Woodbridge Police Department announced that two township police officers were charged today with providing false information during an investigation into a motor vehicle crash involving another township police officer.

Officer David Hughes, 30, of the Port Reading section of the township, was charged with falsifying or tampering with records and tampering with public records.

His partner, Officer Amanda Felicies, 29, of the Fords section of the township, was charged with false swearing for lying to authorities during the investigation into the crash.

Both officers were released on their own recognizance pending further court action. They also have been suspended from duty.

An investigation by the Woodbridge Police Department determined that Hughes and Felicies were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash in the township on May 23, 2015.

An off-duty officer, whose name is being withheld, was traveling north on Route 9 and was exiting onto West Pond Road when his Mitsubishi sport utility vehicle jumped the curb, was damaged and could not be driven.

The investigation determined that Officer Hughes filed a false report on May 23, 2015 to protect the unnamed officer. Officer Felicies subsequently provided false information under oath on January 19, 2016 to police who were investigating the crash.

The investigation is active and is continuing.
