Swift on-the-scene response by units from the Newark Police Department assisted in comforting a man that they found outside of a burning house suffering seriously injuries after being burned.
Firefighters rushed to the 200 block of Mount Prospect Avenue at around 8 p.m. after being notified by police of heavy smoke coming from a house at that location.
Crews arrived to the scene where they observed smoke and flames coming from the roof of a 3-story house that was later identified as 271 Mount Prospect Street.
Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in about 30-minutes according to reports.
EMS transported a male victim (around the age of 49-years-old) to St. Barnabas Health Care Center in Livingston suffering burns to the head, face, and hands.
According to initial reports from the scene, the man was reportedly sleep when he woke up on fire.
His injuries were not reported to be life threatening.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
