One of the country's elite schools for the visual and performing arts has another feather to place in it's cap for distinguished alumni.
Michael B. Jordan, a 2005 graduate of Newark Arts High School, was successful in his quest to usher in additional accolades to his high school that already has dozens of successful artist.
The Washington Post is calling Jordan's win "a total knockout" as the NAACP Image Awards honored him for a success motion picture year.
According to the Washington Post, the star of the boxing drama "Creed" was honored Friday as both the entertainer of the year and outstanding actor in a motion picture for his role as Apollo Creed's son.
While speaking in front of of 200 at the Image Awards, a visually overjoyed and excited JordanJordan said "I used to sneak into the Image Awards, and now I'm standing here as the entertainer of the year, which is mind-blowing,".
Newark Arts High School Interim Principal Ricardo Pedro expressed complete joy and satisfaction at Jordan's accomplishments.
"I am proud to know that our current students have great artistic leaders in the field to look up to like Michael B. Jordan" Pedro said. "Our entire Arts High School family salutes and cheer Michael's success as we prepare our current students to meet the same tasks in being the best artists the country has" Pedro continued.
The school in located in the 500 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard in the city's Central Ward.
Arts High School opened its doors to students in September 1931 as the first public high school in the United States specializing in the visual and performing arts according to the school's historic archives.
