Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson announced a man wanted in connection with a 2010 Camden homicide has been apprehended and will appear in court today.
Timothy Simon, 47, of Houston, Texas, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 31-year-old Lawanda Strickland of Camden. He will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. today before Superior Court Judge Edward J. McBride Jr. in courtroom 36.
Simon, the victim’s then-boyfriend, is accused of manually strangling Strickland at the residence they shared. The victim was found deceased on a couch in their home on the 900 block of Jackson Street in Camden on the morning of July 10, 2010.
An investigation conducted by Cold Case Squad detectives from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and Camden County Police Department resulted in charges being filed against Simon last month. DNA evidence aided detectives in linking the defendant to the killing.
Simon was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service on January 6 in Texas. He was extradited to New Jersey yesterday and is being held at the Camden County Jail.
