Authorities today announced that a former New York cop accused of fatally stabbing 44-year-old Midland woman, was extradited back to New Jersey to face charges.
Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced that Arthur Lomando, 44, of Centereach, New York has been extradited back to New Jersey on charges of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and contempt of violation of a court order.
According to authorities, Suzanne Bardzell arrived to her Cape Cod-style home on the 700 block of Godwin Avenue sometime around 3:26 p.m. when she was confronted by Lomando on Oct. 22.
Lomando then allegedly smashed the driver’s side window of the vehicle and attacked Bradzell with large machete type of knife.
An extensive search for him ensued but Lomando was not located until he threw himself in front of a subway train at Amsterdam and St. Nicholas avenues.
He was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he was treated for head and leg injuries, the prosecutor said.
Lomando, a former employee of the New York City Police Department, was fired from the department for misconduct and physical and/or mental illness.
Bardzell and Lomando had met online three years ago and had been dating since then.
Lomando's first appearance is scheduled for Friday, January 22, 2016 at 9 a.m. before the Honorable Susan J. Steele, P.J.S.C. of the Bergen County Justice Center.
