Double Carjacking in Newark's South Ward Under Investigation

There is an active search for suspects responsible for two separate carjackings that happened minutes apart in the city's South Ward.

A carjacking at knifepoint sent police to the 100 block of Leslie Street at around 8:50 p.m. where they located a victim who reported being carjacked shortly before officer arrived for a white Saturn Ion.

According to the victim, a black male suspect approached wearing a grey hoodie and armed with a knife, demanded the vehicle.

The vehicle has a reported NJ license plate number "380-YIX"

The victim was not physically injured.

At around 9 p.m. in the 40's block of Shanley Avenue, police responded to reports of an armed carjacking at gunpoint when they arrived to find the victim who told them that a black male who was wearing a blue hoodie, approached armed with a weapon and took a blue 2014 Corolla with a reported NY license plate number "GKS-2620"

The suspect fled westbound on Avon Avenue.

There were no physical injuries reported.
