The unconscious Linden resident rescued from an apartment passed away this morning, according to officials.
The Linden Fire Department responded to a fatal fire yesterday, at a three story apartment building located at 1102 West St Georges Avenue just before 6:30 pm.
The first arriving units found a second floor apartment involved in fire.
Building superintendant Sebastian Skowron, was alerted by the fire alarm system and attempt to make entry, he was driven back by the heat and smoke.
He informed fire dept personnel that the apartment was occupied by a husband and wife and thought they might be home.
Crews began to attack the fire immediately and conduct a search of the apartment and of the rest of the building.
Linden Ladder 1 crew conducted a primary search and found 39-year-old Edyta Midura on the floor of the kitchen unconscious.
The firefighters removed the victim from the building and put her in the care of Linden Fire Department EMT’s and Robert Wood Johnson’s Rahway Paramedics who determined the victim needed to be medavac by helicopter to St. Barnabas Burn center in Livingston.
NJ State Police’s Northstar helicopter transported the victim to the Burn Center where she died as the results of her injuries.
The apartment where the fire started suffered extensive damage, while the apartment below suffered water damage.
According to officials, the tenants were able to return to the unaffected apartments after they were check for Carbon Monoxide and smoke inhalation by EMS.
Municipalities such as Roselle, Roselle Park and Clark assisted with mutual aid.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
