Newark East Ward Carjacking Under Investigation

An early morning carjacking reported in the city's East Ward is under investigation by authorities.

Police responded to an address in the 100 block of Bruen Street at around 4 a.m. on reports of an armed carjacking at that location.

Arriving units found the victim who told them that while he was walking to his car in the area, a vehicle occupied by at least two black male suspects pulled up near him when the male passenger exited the vehicle armed with what appeared to be a gun.

The suspect reportedly demanded the keys to the victim's silver Nissan before speeding off in the vehicle in an unspecified direction according to authorities.

The vehicle has New York state temporary tags according to the victim.

There were no physical injuries reported.
