Iselin Babysitter Charged in Infant’s Death

Iselin

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Director Robert Hubner of the Woodbridge Police Department announced today that a babysitter has been charged with child endangerment in the death of a 6-month-old boy.

Marianne McIntire-Caulfield, 62, of the Iselin section of Woodbridge was charged on Dec. 29, with a second degree count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Bail was set at $100,000 for the defendant, who surrendered today at Woodbridge police headquarters.

McIntire-Caulfield was charged following an investigation by Detective Jorge Quesada of the Woodbridge Police Department and Detective Gregory Morris of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

During the investigation it was determined that the defendant was babysitting as many as eight infants in her Iselin home, which was subjected to unsanitary conditions.

The woman noticed on December 1, 2015 that the 6-month-old boy was in distress, and called police at 4:47 p.m. The baby was taken to John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison and was pronounced dead a short time later.

An autopsy by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office is incomplete pending the results of toxicological testing.

The investigation is active and is continuing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Quesada of the Woodbridge Police Department at (732) 634-7700, extension 2114, or Detective Morris of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-4054.
