Woman Loses Three Sons to Newark Gun Violence as Authorities Identify Late Night Fatal Shooting Victim

Newark

The mother of a man found fatally shot in Newark last night is in mourning as authorities identify the city's latest victim of gunfire.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray has announced that authorities are investigating a shooting homicide that occurred Monday evening in Newark that left the woman's only remaining son dead.

According to authorities, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Newark police officers responded to a report of a shooting in progress in the 200 block of South 11th Street.

Arriving officers located an unresponsive male lying on the sidewalk at this location.

Authorities said the victim, (who was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds) was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:14 p.m.

The victim has been identified as Tyquan Rogers, age 20, of Newark, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor's Homicide.

This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, according to Fennelly, who added that the investigation is active and ongoing at this time.

In May 2011, Ms. Rogers lost her son Anthony to a shooting that happened on Littleton Avenue and several months later, in Febuary 2012, her son Antoine was gunned down on Bedford Street.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Task Force detectives at (877) 847-7432 or (973) 621-4586.
