Fatal Newark Shooting Victim Identified as 35-Year-Old Man

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray has announced that authorities are investigating a shooting homicide that occurred early Sunday morning in Newark, NJ.

Authorities said at approximately 1:00 a.m., Newark police officers responded to the area of 13 Whittier Place on a report of a shooting.

Arriving officers located a male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Authorities said the male victim was rushed to University Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead at 4:23 a.m.

Authorities identified the victims as Marquise Ragland, age 35, of Newark, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.

This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.

The investigation is active and ongoing at this time, according to Fennelly.
