Ocean County authorities are investigating an early morning single-vehicle crash that fatally injured driver in Barnegat Township
First responders rushed to County Road 539 near mile marker 14 shortly before 4:30 a.m. where they found a vehicle that collided into a pole off the roadway.
Police pulled a seriously injured 23-year-old man from the vehicle and began performing life saving techniques.
EMS arrived a short time later and reportedly assisted officers to no avail. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police closed off Route 72 and Route 539 in Barnegat Township and on the Whiting (Harry Wright Boulevard) side of the highway.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
