EMS rushed a male victim to University Hospital earlier this evening suffering injury from gunfire authorities in Irvington said.
Gunshots rang out inside a store located in the 1200 block of Springfield Avenue sending police to the scene where they located the owner of the store seriously injured.
An initial investigation from the scene says that the 20-year owner of the establishment was attacked inside the store by at least one male suspect who entered the store and announced a robbery.
Somewhere during the robbery, gunfire rang out striking the owner who residents would only say they called "Sammy."
According to reports, the store owner was still alive during his transport to University Hospital.
Family members arriving at the scene were emotionally drained as authorities rushed them off to University Hospital a short time ago.
We are awaiting information from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office if anything changes regarding the status of the victim.
