Authorities announced the arrest of two me accused of posing as Passaic County Sheriff's officers in home invasion in Paterson back in August.
According to Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik, Jason Thompson, 32, of Paterson, and Clemente R. Carlos, 28, of Newark, are facing a serious of charges including kidnapping, robbery, burglary and impersonating a law enforcement officer.
On Aug. 12, Thompson and Carlos entered a 20th Avenue second floor apartment while wearing black T-shirts marked with "sheriff" on the back, wearing holstered guns and a five-point star badge.
Once inside, they used zip-ties to tie one of the resident.
After investigators reviewed surveillance footage that captured both men near the crime scene, confirming that neither of the men were actual officers.
Thompson was taken into custody Wednesday while Carlos was arrested Monday.
A search of Thompson's home led to the seizure of a .38 caliber handgun (reported stolen during a burglary in North Carolina), ammunition and a face mask.
A search of Carlos' home led to the seizure of three sheriff's T-shirts (matching description used in the home invasion) and two ski masks.
