A female victim found badly assaulted last night in Newark has police investigating.
Original reports into police headquarters of a woman suffering injury from gunfire had several police units rush to the 200 block of South 19th Street shortly after midnight.
Arriving units located a woman bleeding heavily after they determined that she was not shot but viciously assaulted.
It is not immediately known where the assault took place but residents in the area said that the woman made her way down the block banging on doors and ringing doorbells in an attempt to seek assistance for her injuries.
The woman told authorities that she was "jumped" and beaten by several people shortly before they arrived to the scene. She was transported to the hospital where she is expected to be ok.
