Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson released the identity of a suspect who died following a police-involved shooting last night in Camden.
The suspect, Freddy Baez, 24, of Camden, was fatally shot as two Camden County Police officers responded around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday to a 911 call for a domestic violence disturbance on the 3200 block of Rutledge Walk. The caller indicated Baez was possibly armed.
Preliminary findings indicate that the officers arrived at the location and gunshots were exchanged between Baez and the officers.
Baez was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later. His next of kin were subsequently notified.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. The officers involved were placed on administrative leave pending the investigation. The officers’ identities will not be released at this time.
When a municipal police officer is involved in a shooting, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office conducts an investigation into the incident, as required by the State Attorney General’s Office guidelines.
