Authorities Investigate Fatal Police-Involved Shooting in Camden

Camden

Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported a fatal police-involved shooting in Camden City on Tuesday night.

The shooting happened as two Camden County Police officers responded around 7:00 p.m. to a 911 call for a domestic violence disturbance on the 3200 block of Rutledge Walk. The caller indicated a male involved in the incident was possibly armed.

Preliminary findings indicate that the officers arrived at the location and gunshots were exchanged between the suspect and the officers.

The suspect, a Camden man in his 20s, was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later. His identity is being withheld at this time while notification of next of kin is being made.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

The officers involved were placed on administrative leave pending the investigation. The officers’ identities will not be released at this time.

When a municipal police officer is involved in a shooting, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office conducts an investigation into the incident, as required by the State Attorney General’s Office guidelines.
