Police responded to the parking lot of the Dragonfly restaurant, located at 661 W. Edgar Street on a report of a stabbing Saturday around 10:25 a.m.
The victim, a 25-year-old Linden man, told police that he was sitting in a car with his girlfriend, a 27-year-old Rahway woman, while they were waiting to enter the restaurant where they are both employed.
The victim said a green minivan pulled up and a man got out and approached his vehicle. The minivan driver, later identified as Al M. Washington, 29, of Rahway, became involved in a dispute with the victim over the woman.
As the dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, Washington pulled out a folding knife from his pocket and slashed the victim, cutting his left hand.
Washington then entered the minivan and left the scene heading north on Routes 1&9.
Police broadcasted the vehicle’s description and the van was stopped by officers at Bacheller Avenue and Routes 1&9.
The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest and the knife was recovered.
He is being held on $75,000 bail on charges of aggravated assault and weapons offenses.
Washington also had a contempt warrant out of Rahway. His court date is set for November 30th.
The victim was treated by the Linden Fire Department ambulance for a two-inch laceration on his left hand.
