The ax-wielding Newark man accused of attacking two people at Newport Centre mall, was found sitting on the couch at a relative's home in Newark.
Police responded to the Downtown Jersey City mall yesterday at around 9 p.m., where 24-year-old Nelson Lizardi-Moreno tried to gain entry through a back door of his ex-girlfriend’s job to allegedly attack her.
As Lizardi-Moreno tried to enter the store, a store employee confronted him. The suspect attacked the 30-year-old Elizabeth woman, leaving her with a serious head injury. When a 24-year-old Carteret man tried to take the ax away from Lizardi-Moreno, he also suffered injuries.
As of earlier today, the Elizabeth woman was listed in critical but stable condition, while the Carteret man was in stable condition.
According to city spokeswoman Jennifer Morril, Lizardi-Moreno was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, unlawful possession of a weapon, criminal attempt homicide and stalking.
