Update: 7-Year-Old Child Struck by Vehicle in Elizabeth, Remains Critical

A 7-year-old child struck yesterday afternoon by a car remains in critical condition, according to police.

Police responded to the 100 block of West Jersey Street yesterday (Monday) at approximately 4:55 p.m. for a report of a child struck by a car.

Upon arrival, officers found Sadil Rodriguez, 7, in the company of several adults after he was struck by a vehicle at that location.

The child was transported to University Hospital Trauma Center in Newark, in critical condition with undisclosed injuries.

Witnesses state that the child ran out into the roadway from in between two parked cars and was struck.

As of 8 a.m. today, the victim remains in critical condition, but stabilized according to officials at University Hospital.

The Union County Sheriff’s Dept. and the Union County Police Dept. Accident Investigation unit are assisting with the investigation.

No immediate information was provided about the driver.
