Authorities Identify Man Killed Inside Jersey City Deli; Apparent Gambling Operation

The Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the identity of the 23-year-old man shot and killed inside a deli, also believed to be the home of a gambling operation.

Sunday, just before 1 p.m. police responded to Los Yoleros Mini Market Deli, located at 388, Ocean Avenue, on a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found the 23-year-old Davonte D. Carswell, of Jersey City, inside the deli suffering from gunshot wound(s) to the upper torso.

Although no arrests have been reported in connection to the shooting. The owners - Gabino Tineo, 44: Isabel Dominguez, 37 - and one employee - Marcelino Ramos, Jr., 32, - were arrested for tampering with physical evidence and possession of gambling records after police discovered an alleged gambling operation inside the deli. Authorities have charged the men after they allegedly moved Carswell's body from a stairwell to the back of the store.
