A violent early morning crash that happened on the Garden State Parkway in Irvington has authorities investigating.
Emergency crews rushed to the southbound side of the highway near exit 144 in Irvington after receiving several 911 calls of a crash with possible injuries.
Firefighters from East Orange and Irvington arrived to the scene where they located a vehicle near the Lyons Ave. underpass with two people seriously injured at that location.
According to initial reports, one of the victims was trapped underneath the vehicle.
First responders worked frantically to remove the victim from under the vehicle ultimately using a tow truck to lift the car to free the critically injured victim.
Both victims were rushed to University Hospital in Newark where they suffered serious to critical injuries.
The crash closed several lanes on the highway causing heavy delays.
