Officials confirm that the alarm system did not in fact activate last week during the eight-alarm fire that displaced hundreds of Passaic residents.
Although officials deemed the Gregory Avenue apartment building fire accidental, the exact cause of the fire was not yet available.
According to city officials, the building was inspected back July after a water leak "interfered with the alarm system," the statement said. However, officials added that the alarm system was repaired and tested.
