Update: Man Fatally Stabs Midland Park Woman, Jumps in Front of NYC Subway

Midland Park

Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli confirms that attacker that fatally stabbed a 48-year-old Midland Park woman, threw himself in front of a subway train in New York City last night.

According to authorities, Suzanne Bardzell arrived to her Cape Cod-style home on the 700 block of Godwin Avenue sometime around 3:26 p.m. Thursday, when she was confronted by Arthur J. Lomando of Centerreach, N.Y.

Lomando then smashed the driver’s side window of the vehicle and attacked Bradzell with large machete type of knife which he left at the scene before fleeing.

Police responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call but when police arrived at the scene, Bardzell was already dead inside her running car, Molinelli said. Despite an extensive search for the suspect, Lomando was not located.

Police later discovered, Lomando who fled to New York City, threw himself in front of a subway train at Amsterdam and St. Nicholas avenues. He was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he was treated for head and leg injuries, the prosecutor said. As of this morning, he remains in critical condition.

Lomando, a former employee of the New York City Police Department, was fired from the department for misconduct and physical and/or mental illness.

An order of protection against Lomando had recently been sought after previous domestic violence incidents, prosecutor added.

Bardzell and Lomando had met online three years ago and had been dating since then.
