Student Caught in Possession of Multiple Xanax Pills Arrested in Newark School

Newark

An investigation is underway into a student who was caught possessing illegal drugs inside a Newark School building.

School officials at the Malcolm X. Shabazz High School located in the 80's block of Johnson Ave. were tipped off by an unidentified source at around 12:30 p.m. that a male student was possibly in possession of illegal drugs inside the building.

The source got suspicious when they reportedly observed the social media Instagram page earlier in the day where the student was showcasing about a dozen pills.

According to a parental source, the 17-year-old male student was questioned by an armed school safety officer who is reportedly stationed inside the school building.

The parent said, after a brief investigation, the boy handed over about 10 white pills that were later positively identified as Xanax.

The boy was escorted from the school building into a security vehicle where he was transported to the Essex County Youth Detention Center.

It is not immediately known if the boy was conducting sales inside the school or if he is affiliated with other illegal drug sources.
