Millville Man Impregnates Girl; Gets Six Years for Eluding, Sexual Assault

Millville

A Millville was sentenced to six years for eluding police and sexual assault of a girl, who he impregnated, in Deptford.

Robert A. DeCamp III, 25, of Millville, was sentenced Friday (10/9) to six years in New Jersey state prison on a 2013 eluding police charge and to a concurrent five-year term for child endangerment involving a consensual relationship with a girl between age 13 and 16 in Deptford who gave birth to his child in 2012.

DeCamp pleaded guilty to both offenses on 5/8/15.

The eluding charge resulted from an 11/21/13 police pursuit in Deptford as officers were attempting to serve a warrant to DeCamp. DeCamp’s pickup truck eventually crashed on Delsea Drive shortly after police terminated the pursuit.

The endangering charge was signed 10/8/13 after the girl’s father, who had recently acquired custody of her, reported the relationship to police.

In sentencing DeCamp, Superior Court Judge M. Christine Allen-Jackson said his evaluation at the state Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center for sex offenders in Avenel NJ determined he was not amenable to placement there to serve his sentence because he was not found to be a compulsive offender. Because of the consensual nature of the relationship, Judge Allen-Jackson did not find DeCamp to be a sexually violent offender, who could be civilly committed to further prison time after his initial sentence.

Upon release, DeCamp will be subject to reporting and other requirements of Megan’s Law for sex offenders and will be under parole supervision for at least 15 years.

DeCamp has been jailed since his arrest in the eluding incident and will receive credit against his sentence for time served.
