A fatal early morning shooting in Newark has authorities investigating.
Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the 500 block of South Orange Ave, at around 5 a.m. where arriving units found one person unconscious and unresponsive after being shot at that location.
EMS arrived to the scene a short time later where they pronounced the victim dead.
Police chased at least two potential suspects by foot near 16th Ave. and Grove Street.
The suspects were detained in the 400 block of Grove Street.
A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed that one person has died at the scene but could not release additional information until later this morning.
