Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Belleville Police Chief Joseph Rotonda announced today that the Belleville Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a fatal shooting in the 200 block of Belleville Avenue in Belleville.
The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Michael Williams, II, of Newark.
Authorities said, while the investigation is continuing, it appears that the victim had been a patron at a gentlemen’s club prior to the shooting.
At this time no arrests have been made. The motive is unclear.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
