A Plainfield man was sentenced today to six years in jail for setting ex-girlfriend's North Plainfield home on fire.
On June 28, 2014 at 12:09 a.m., crews responded to 91 Manning Avenue for a report fully engulfed home.
The ex-girlfriend's sister who was inside the home escaped the fire after jumping from a second floor window.
After an extensive investigation, Alexis Brito, 23, was arrested and charged after admitting to set the home on fire in an act of revenge against former girlfriend.
Brito told police that after his ex-girlfriend left the home with her parents he re-entered the home and used a bottle of cologne as an accelerant to ignite the fire.
Brito pleaded guilty to second-degree aggravated arson, second-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree arson, third-degree hindering apprehension, fourth-degree theft and fourth-degree resisting arrest before Somerset County Superior Court Judge H. Matthew Curry.
He must serve 85-percent of sentence before he's eligible for parole. He was also ordered to pay Philadelphia-based Cozen O'Connor $297,047.49 and Travelers Insurance $3,179.14 for damage to two separate homes damaged by the fire.
