BREAKING NEWARK: Shootings Kill Three in 24-Hour Span in Newark

A 24-hour span in Newark has turned into turmoil as police and investigators attempt to solve at least three homicides (and a possible fourth) that happened in the city.

Timeline:

Saturday September 19, 2015 at 4:25 p.m. Gunfire erupts in the area of 12th Street and 9th Ave. striking a man at that location. The man was transported to University Hospital where his injuries were life threatening at the start of our news day (2 a.m.)

Saturday September 19, 2015 at around 8:42 p.m. Heavy gunfire ripped the silence of the evening in the 400 block of Central Ave. rushing police to the area where a male victim was found shot multiple time. The victim was taken to University Hospital where he did not survive his injury.

Sunday September 20, 2015 at around 2:15 a.m. reports of shots fired took police to the 200 block of Irvine Turner Boulevard where they located a male victim shot and critically wound at that location. The victim was pronounced dead a short time later.

Sunday September 20, 2015 at around 2:45 a.m. Rutgers Police rushed to the area of South Orange Ave. and South 10th Street on reports of shots fired when they arrived to locate a male victim suffering a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was pronounced dead a short time later.

There were about 2-3 non-fatal shootings in the city that we will update you on later on today.

We are working hard to bring you the identity of these victims and other possible information as soon as it becomes available from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

East Orange and Orange has reported shots fired with at least one person injured in East Orange earlier in the day and one overnight. We are gathering information for the reported Orange shooting.
