Tomorrow: 7th Annual 'Battle of the Badges' in Linden

Linden

The tradition continues, as the Linden Police Athletic League hosts its 7th Annual Wanda A. Green Memorial "Battle of the Badges" fundraiser/event tomorrow (September 11) from 7 to 10 p.m.

The event, named in honor of Linden resident and United Flight 93 flight attendant Wanda A. Green, is geared towards creating a safe atmosphere of fun for the whole family that culminates in a flag-football game between the Linden Police and Fire Departments.

The "Battle of the Badges" has grown every year since its inception and brings together all Linden residents.

Its growth has also allowed the P.A.L. to expand as an organization, both in terms of sports offered and in presence within the community.

"As I have always said, our success is the community's success," PAL Director Daniel Kuczynski said. "Without the funds from this event and others, we would have to turn away children, close down leagues, and shorten our seasons."

The event will also showcase other events for a night of fun for the family, including music, food, and bouncy houses, to only name a few. Tickets are $5 a piece, with all proceeds going to the Linden P.A.L. Event will take place at the P.A.L field next to Memorial Park.

"The support from the local community's businesses, the police and fire departments, and the city make this possible," Kuczynski added. "It's a beautiful thing, and while the game is important, it is nowhere as important as creating a community atmosphere for the City of Linden."

Kuczynski, who will captain the Police Department's team, pointed out that the LPD is currently ahead in the series, 4 wins to 2. Last year, the Linden Fire Department won 34-18.

"That won't happen again," Kuczynski said with a smile.
