Authorities are investigating the cause of a late night pedestrian strike that left a man dead in Bloomfield.
First responders rushed to East Passaic Street near the Old Canal Inn just at the Nutley border on reports of a male victim who was laying on the ground injured after being struck by a vehicle at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
Upon arrival, police located the man critically injured after being struck by a motorcycle at that location.
A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed that the man's injuries were fatal but could not release additional details pending notification of the victim's family and an investigation.
The community where the man worked as a livery cab driver were shocked at his lost saying that "he was the nicest man".
We are refusing to announce the gentleman's name until the Prosecutor's Office officially releases their details.
A manager at the taxi company that the victim worked for (one city over) reported that the victim was just dropped off in the area by a driver of their company shortly before he was struck and killed by the motorcycle. "We will really miss him. All of our customers spoke so highly of him because he was a great man" the manager said.
We will bring you additional information as soon as the Essex County Prosecutor's Office releases it on Sunday.
