Suspicious Car Leads to Arrest of Linden, Elizabeth Men Accused of Gun, Drug Possession

Police took four into custody after the smell of burning marijuana coming from a parked vehicle where drugs and a handgun were found, according to police.

On September 2, at 12:30 a.m. officers on patrol observed a suspicious white Acura with tinted windows parked on the 1300 block of Middlesex Street.

As the officers approached the vehicle on foot, they smelled the odor of burning marijuana and found it occupied by two men and two women.

The occupants told the officers that they had been smoking marijuana. A search of the vehicle turned up a plastic baggie with 44 smaller bags of the suspected drug as well as a Glock 9 mm handgun and a 30 round loaded magazine clip.

Grady C. Jilus, 23, of Linden, was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a high capacity magazine clip.

Brian R. Previlon, 22, of Elizabeth, was charged with hindering apprehension by giving a false name to the officers.

Both men and the two females, Janea J. Jarvis, and Tyra A. Watkins, both 18, of Rahway, were charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jilus and Previlon were transported to the Union County Jail on bail amounts of $85,000, and $1,500, respectively.

The two women were released on summonses.

All have a court date set for September 11th.
