Authorities in Rahway are investigating a fatal shooting of a 57-year-old cab driver that happened overnight in the city.
Police responded to the 1400 block of Bedford Street on reports of shots fired that rang out at around 11 p.m.
Upon arrival to the scene, cops found the 57-year-old cab driver injured by gunfire inside of a taxi cab at that location.
According to unofficial reports, the victim was identified as a driver of Station Cab and a father of 10.
According to initial reports, the cab driver was a victim of an attempted robbery which led to him being shot in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said that the taxi ultimately collided with two parked vehicles, one occupied by woman who was taken to an area hospital with severe injuries.
According to cab company, after an armed robbery last week of another cab driver, drivers were on alert.
Unfortunately, the call requesting the cab last night came in from a private line and could not be recorded, added the cab company.
The Union County Prosecutor's Office did confirm that there is an active homicide investigating at the location but could not provide any details at this time.
