Update: Fully Engulfed Dump Truck Closes NJ Turnpike in Linden

Update: State Police have confirmed that the driver of the dump truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Identity is being withheld until next of kin is notified.

A fully engulfed dump truck has shutdown the NJ Turnpike in both directions near exit 13A in Linden.

The accident happened on the southbound outer roadway just north of Interchange 12 - Carteret-Rahway, between exits 12 and 13A, shortly before 11 a.m.

It is unknown at this time what caused the dump truck to overturn and burst into flames. According to initial reports, the driver of the truck was trapped inside.  

As of 11:55 a.m., Linden police warned residents that the S. Wood Ave bridge over the NJ Turnpike was closed as a result of the accident on the Turnpike.
