A man choking while dining at a township steak house was saved by an off-duty Essex County Sheriff's volunteer deputy.
Sometime around 7 p.m. Deputy Chris Cannon was waiting dining at the Franklin Steak House on Passaic Avenue when he overheard that a man, 60, in the restaurant was choking.
Despite, restaurant employees efforts to help the choking man they were unsuccessful.
According to officials, that is when Cannon performed the Heimlich maneuver.
Emergency crews responded to the scene to evaluate the man.
Police said he is expected to make a full recovery.
