Crash Inside Branch Brook Park in Belleville Kills Man

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Sheriff Armando Fontoura have announced that authorities are investigating a single vehicle crash in Branch Brook Park, in Belleville, in which a 44-year-old male was killed.  

Authorities said, at approximately 10:30 a.m., officers from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the Mill Street area of the park on a report of a motor vehicle accident.

According to authorities, arriving officers observed a single vehicle had apparently lost control and crashed into some trees. The driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Clara Maass Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:37 a.m.

The incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Essex County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is pending at this time, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, according to Fennelly. Anyone with information is asked to contact Task Force detectives at (877) 847-7432 or (973) 621-4586.
