Fatal Shooting Victim Identified in Irvington

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Irvington Police Director Musa Malik have announced that authorities are investigating a shooting in Irvington, NJ early Monday morning, in which one male was fatally wounded.

According to authorities, shortly after midnight, Irvington police officers were dispatched to a shooting call that happened in the 400 block of Lyons Avenue. Arriving officers located an an conscious and unresponsive male at this location.

The victim has been identified as Tavaris L. Payne was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:46 a.m.

This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Irvington Police Department authorities said. 

The investigation is active and ongoing at this time, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
